"Ahhh, that article is from 2008. I believe that under the ACA there are no longer caps."

Yeah, I couldn't find the date on that article, thanks. But yes, the ACA removes those caps:

The TrumpCare version retains these caps:

Professional courtesy, I guess. It's why sharks don't eat lawyers.

Ugenetoo,

Ugenetoo,

There are pockets of competitive pricing for meds, tests and procedures but patients won't be told about them because most physicians are too busy, don't know how to shop for these themselves or figure that's somebody's else's job. It's hard to compare prices unless you know where to look because, until recently, very few people paid for these themselves but bought via insurers and government agencies so the pharmacies don't seem motivated yet to compete on price on most meds.

A three month supply of the common prophylactic dose of tamoxifen can range up to the prices you quoted (I see $147 online) but apparently you can get a 90 day supply for $16 at Rite Aid with a membership there. https://www.goodrx.com/tamoxifen?drug-name=tamoxifen&form=tablet&dosage=...

When a patient has "skin in

When a patient has "skin in the game," they can be pretty resourceful as far as getting the best deal.

But once you put any of grandma's skin in the game, it's a political uproar.

Working middle class going broke paying premiums?

Meh, who cares. Not a good "narrative."

Maybe the r's "the premiums

Maybe the r's "the premiums will go up before they come down" will become as much of a classic as Pelosi's "you've got to pass the bill to find out what's in it"............ Six years to come up with a really good plan to repeal and replace and pfffffffffffffffffft......

This happened over ten years ago, and since that time, Tamoxifen, at least for her, has been proven to do more harm than good, so I haven't kept up with prices.

But, as you state, nobody shops for their healthcare.
The reason?
Insurance companies insulate (for a price) the consumer from the provider.
This fiasco will only end when the insurance companies are out of the picture.
