Question

Yesterday when I turned on my computer I got a message that my computer had been hacked and a virus added that would allow the release of my financial and personal data. It was a verbal message. It said that if I did not call the number shown on the screen immediately, Microsoft would disconnect me from their system. I use Microsoft as my internet service provider. I tried to shut off the message but couldn't and fearing a hack, shut down my computer. When I restarted the message was gone.

Did anyone else experience this?

It's bullshit, for the love

It's bullshit, for the love of god do not call the number, unless you want to practice your Urdu with a Pakistani scammer.

Make sure your anti virus software is up to date, make sure you have all your system/application updates installed, and I would rerun a virus scan.

If you still see issues, bring it into a computer place. If you live near Portland, Necessary Technology is the best place. They are super professional, and won't do stupid shit like the Geek Squad.

It is called social

It is called social engineering. We all need to be more diligent. The new "computer virus" strains are really PICNIC viruses (Problem in Chair, Not In Computer). If you read the articles about Hillary's servers being hacked it all started with someone clicking on a pop-up that fooled someone to give out information....

It is social engineering, but

It is social engineering, but it also helps to have the computer checking for you (what a virus scanner does), and keeping the computer up to date is the tech equivalent of getting your vaccinations up to date.

Another question:

Another question:

'Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?'

GENERAL CONSTERNATION

On the other hand, it's mildly refreshing to see pencil and paper still have a place in this classroom, despite the atrocious penmanship.
