Postage increase

Did anyone hear about the increase in postage stamps costs? First class mail went from $0.47 to $0.49. Was this a stealth measure. The USPS lost nearly $6 billion in 2016. Way to government agency (yes I know but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...its a government agency)

I thought the cost of postage

I thought the cost of postage was mandated to not increase beyond inflation? (Thus making forever stamps a terrible investment.)

Postage is one of the best

Postage is one of the best deals around. For half a buck, you can send a letter anywhere in the country? Holy cow.

Forever stamps are a good investment against price increases.

"Forever" is a very long time. I wonder - Are they making a promise they won't be able to keep?

Our economic system has a

Our economic system has a natural inflation rate of about 2% per year rising to 3% when the government over prints the currency on one of its economic boost tirades that is again getting under way again. It a natural characteristic of a system where the exchange accumulates because it is not consumed as it is spent by the individual. No matter how many hands that $100 bill passes through it is still always $100 dollars but its purchasing power is diminished. At its present value, the dollar being issued currently is worth less than $0.03. and it takes $23.30 to buy what $1.000 bought in 1914 when the cost to produce and ounce of gold was equal to its imputed value. If you don't believe me, you must believe the government who produces these statistics that everyone seems to ignore the reason why and certainly the government doesn't really want you to know.

Tom: You can send an email to anyone in the world with a connection to the internet for free and the price has not gone up since the first was sent.

Yes, of course, and the post office suffers for that.

But think of what mail is - a physical letter - a few folded pages in an envelope - actually being moved by men and machines in a few days over thousands of miles - and delivered to the sendee's HOUSE!

For less than half a buck!

It's amazing!

Believe this: the cost of internet access has continuously increased. If yours hasn't, you must get the special deal offered to PC individuals.

I think the worse part is the melding of UPS and USPS. I don't know who is making a profit over whom., but I'd always receive UPS at the door rather than go through the transfer to USPS.

Melding of government and corporate powers equals fascism and the question remains who gets the benefit, I'm guessing USPS, and the consumer gets a day less service? also fascism

If one order a item from an online vendor and am told it will be delivered on a specific date and arrives has promised,
who cares how it gets to destination.

The USPS had a monopoly for

The USPS had a monopoly for decades and still lost their butts. As noted above, they lost nearly $6 billion in 2016. Perhaps why the miracle of sending a folded letter in an envelope delivered by a real person is under $0.50...what would it be if they charged enough to cover their inflated costs.

Wanna bet that Uncle Sam will come to the aid of this mismanaged mess!
