Lead Ban Lifted

The new Sec of Interior lifted the Obama ban on lead ammo on fed lands. It helps that he is hunts and fishes too and is from Montana.

This means we don't have to buy the expensive ammo when hunting on Roxanne's cut over wood lot.

I am not familiar with all of

I am not familiar with all of the ramifications of the lead ban, but there are serious concerns about the effects of lead on scavengers.

This article is pretty clear - https://www.thedodo.com/bald-eagle-ammunition-refuges-2306402071.html

The photos are disturbing and can probably be compared to Greenpeace tactics, but I'm interested in your take on this, Roger and other hunters.

Lead is one of the best

Lead is one of the best materials to make bullets from. A huge portion of the market is hunting ammo. A large portion of hunting ammo is shotgun ammo. There are no longer any lead smelters using mined lead in the US. Hunting ammo can be and is used for personal defense.
Limiting lead in hunting ammo is but one aspect of a multipronged approach to gun control, regardless of what the enviromaniacal handwringing bedwetters have to say.

Thank you, Ugenetoo. You raise a point of concern that I hadn't thought about.

There are decent alternatives

There are decent alternatives to lead, like tungsten, but they're expensive. Steel has mostly replaced lead on the water but it isn't nearly as heavy, so loses its energy and hitting power rapidly. You've got to pass on longer shots or risk crippling birds.

Clearly, dropping tons and tons of lead shot into our waterways before the ban wasnt great, even if it's mostly solid/contained. But alternatives for sportsmen (and their quarry) haven't been really great, either.

The ban on lead shot for

The ban on lead shot for waterfowl is not being rescinded, only the ban on lead in national lands I'd assume.

For instance if you were to hunt grouse and woodcock in Moosehorn Refuge you would be required to use non-toxic shot. I don't know if all copper rifle bullets are required on Moosehorn.

NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGES (NWR)
Note: On National Wildlife Refuges which
permit hunting of upland game, persons
hunting upland species other than deer and
turkey with a shotgun shall possess and
use only nontoxic shot while in the field.

From Maine Rules

President Barack Obama's Fish and Wildlife Service had issued the lead ban on Jan. 19, one day before the inauguration of President Donald Trump, to protect birds and fish from lead poisoning. The move was met with sharp criticism from the National Rifle Association (NRA), which called it Obama's "final assault on gun owners' and sportsmen's rights."

From this link Obama's 1-19-17 edict for a lead ban probably has no bearing on the previous lead ban on Moosehead Refuge. Good ole Obama just screwing with us for 8 years and doing his best to throw a wrench into the works at the last moment.

It appears that Matt is not

It appears that Matt is not much of a firearms enthusiast. Tungsten steel in a rifle barrel? Not much barrel wear there, huh. If the military wishes to use it, they don't care. It's the taxpayer that must purchase the replacement parts. Most tungsten is secured in a Sabot. Not very accurate when used in small arms. This has already been experimented with and was found lacking. Lead and bismuth, shotshells. Copper jacketed lead, sometimes lead alone, and solid copper, rifles and handguns. BUT the next thing is the crazies will be protesting the use of copper.

ps, if anyone has some .44 round balls to part with, I need some. pm me. Thanks.

Rebecca, I don't use my .308

Rebecca, I don't use my .308 on federal land, so I've never had to look at anything to replace good old core-lokt. Ducks are a different story, and tung matrix is one of the better alternatives.

So how about you go pound sand?

Yes , I do Matt.

Yes , I do Matt.
Only in seeing a comment suggesting something about a persons family member as above is over the limit IMO.
In your case it is sad to see one lower themselves to such level obviously because of the inability to
counter what you have taken over the loss and win.
Instead of returning "fire" you probably have started one .
I would suggest surrender. You are losing this one.

That is what you have to

That is what you have to resort to !

You asked if I had a problem , "you got an issue with that" " with your post, I answsered openly and honestly.
Lesson is do not ask , for I will answer unlike others. I am not a believer in the ignore and they will go away theory,
yourself and your equal are living proof.
You tend to beg for what you get in some respects.

Not that it matters much ,since I am not a hunter with minimal knowldedge of the sport,I saw nothing much wrong with your post re: ammunition content
etc. ducks or anthing else do not shoot at me so I don't hunt.
Also, if you were on AMG 1 when that person was moderator I don't remember seeing any comments from you about her performance , so
share all insinuations direct or indirect about her to others not me please.

Speaking of sand, somethings

Speaking of sand, somethings are dirt cheap. Dirt is not one of them. Pounding sand is a lucrative occupation. As far as pounding other things, I'll leave that up to the aforementioned others.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about your preference for 7 year olds, although I would have guessed it to be boys.
