Gov. Mills vows to ACT against the climate

In her inaugural address, Janet Mills made climate change action her top priority.
She vows that 50 % of Maine’s electricity will come from “renewable” sources.
Solar panels are coming to the Blaine House.
Meanwhile she says we’re done with looking at studies.
Studies, for example, that show increased reliance on intermittent sources like wind and solar necessitate keeping backup sources fueled by natural gas or oil or coal (absent nuclear power) up and running, thus negating the low emissions benefits of renewables.
Studies that show poor and working class people are most hurt by the energy price escalation caused by increased use of “renewables” and taxes and subsidies in the energy sector.
Apparently Gov. Mills can’t relate to the “yellow vests” in France, protesting high gas prices owing to Macron’s climate policies.
This tells me Maine’s climate initiatives are for the well-to-do who can afford solar panels and will never notice higher energy costs.
Why should ratepayers pay even a fraction of a cent more so that their betters can cut their energy bills with solar panels?
Even CNN acknowledges that climate action hurts the poor working guy while making the Davis set feel virtuous.

I don’t care if she promised

I don’t care if she promised to turn rocks into cheddar cheese.

At least we’re rid of the fat windbag embarrassment who drank his way through eight years in the Blaine House...and his dumb wife...and dumber daughter. Pee-yoo, buh bye!

I am disappointed that Gov. Mills did not support for the ultimate renewable energy source
the Dickey Lincoln hydro project , for the children of course !

Nice Trumpian spin on the CNN

Nice Trumpian spin on the CNN piece, which clearly states the opinions in this article belong to the author. One would expect a Bowdoin graduate to know better.

expat, for a non-trumpian spin on who is harmed most by rising energy prices, and other trade-offs to be considered, please see Bjorn Lomborg.

I'm not going to say I'm sorry you've decided to leave As Maine Goes, Mr. Carter, but no hard feelings, your doctors may someday find the medications to restore your sanity.

Yup. If Mills wanted to

Yup. If Mills wanted to start her term with elitist virtue-signaling, she's successful.

Thomas Carter, climate change

Thomas Carter, climate change = a fact.
Trade-offs in mitigation/adaptation/prevention = a fact.
Learning what those might be = common good.

Personally I'd like to see

Personally I'd like to see all of the legislators and bureaucrats, including Governor Mills who advocate for "green energy" to put heat pumps in their homes, solar panels on their roofs and electric cars in their garages and a windmill in the back forty . Leading by example is always the most convincing argument.
I'd be surprised if any of the current crop of true believing legislators have the courage of their convictions and have junked out their fossil fuel furnace , bought the panels or traded in the Subaru for a spiffy Prius .....Oh yeah and with no financial incentives, just the self satisfaction of their contribution to saving the planet should be reward enough.

I just want them to stop

I just want them to stop getting driven around in limos, or jetting off to climate change symposia. Lead by example, as you say. Their carbon footprint is gigantic compared to any normal person. But some are always "more equal"...

As the stalwart protector of the environment and proponent of the greening of Maine ,will Janet just say NO to CMP”s corridor cut...... think of all the carbon sink that will be destroyed.........Or is the sacrifice of the Maine woods a small price to pay to help green our southern neighbors....?

You do realize that when you

You do realize that when you dinosaurs are extinct, most of this bizarre and paranoid talk of the communist boogey-man will die with you? Why would you want to waste your last breaths fretting over a delusion?

The Communists will kill all

The Communists will kill all dissenters, just as they did in the cold war.

What all the sycophants don't realize is that all the vocal supporters will be next - anyone vocal enough to be effective promoters could also be a threat. Their slavishly vocal devotion shall have no reward.

Like Danton & Trotsky, they'll be so surprised that their very prominence guarantees their demise.

The last I heard, there was still a Communist government in China, ruling over 1/6 of the world's population; and, closer to home, we have the baby Marxists who call themselves "Socialists" who are eager to credit "Socialism" for all the good things in the world (being remarkably ignorant of history) and who want to destroy capitalism and the free market, and who want to spend tens of trillions of dollars to stop imaginary "global warming/climate change/(insert the Scary Phrase of the Month here)".

In the meantime, you're still proving yourself incapable of creating a coherent statement and going straight to the insults...

Marxist, Marxian, socialist,

Marxist, Marxian, socialist, Communist, communist, whatever.

A large proportion of the global electorate believes that capitalists are an oppressive class that should be suppressed. It's the oppressor/victim template of politics.

Except in the little bubble where expat lives.

Solar panels to be installed

Solar panels to be installed on the Blaine house in the next couple of weeks ,I’m hoping to see the photos of the newly installed panels on Janet’s personal residence as well.....Maybe the photo could include the vents from the heat pumps and her new Volt.

I was wondering if any

I was wondering if any historical district building restrictions might apply to the Blaine House.

Many cities and towns have historical districts where certain visible changes are prohibited.

These panels would certainly change the look of the Blaine House from the street.

Seems I remember some years back there was a big news splash about solar panels being installed at the Blaine house. What happened to those?

Frank Lee, I don't recall

Frank Lee, I don't recall solar panels, but perhaps it did happen at one point during Baldacci's term.

I believe Governor LePage installed heat pumps a while back. They are certainly cost effective for both heating and cooling.

Ugeneto I may be wrong but my

Ugeneto I may be wrong but my understanding of the smart meters that CMP installed is so they they can charge varying rates based on peak demand times. So if you are using electric heat pumps for warmth and the demand is high over the service area your kilowatt rates go up.......Peak demand times in Maine usually are evening hours after folk return from work.......nice.At least the oil oir proane you bought to fill your tank remains at the purchase price.

Color me paranoid, but

Color me paranoid, but anytime the electric company pushes something as hard as they have these heat pumps, there's going to be a time of reckoning.
I remember a while back when Dead River bought up all of the small propane companies in my area and started giving away propane appliances for free.
Turns out they got paid for........ten times over through increased rates.
