Budget Cuts & Army Chow Hall Cuts in Afghanistan: Coincidence?

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jan/27/during-drawdown-pentagon...

Isn't it just grand when our country, especially our civilian military leaders, are LIBERAL DEMOCRATS!

...Army has stopped serving cooked breakfasts to some... soldiers in Afghanistan...

...reduction of cooked breakfasts and midnight meals is not related to the U.S. budget crisis...

...soldiers...given packaged meals known as MREs as substitutes for a cooked breakfast...

In the comments section of the story, the wife of a deployed soldier said As I skyped with my husband last night, 1/27/13, it was 6:30a.m. in Afghanistan, and he was eating a nutritious TINY bowl of frosted flakes...prior to him leaving for a mission that would take hours...

MRE; Meals Ready to Eat Three

MRE; Meals Ready to Eat

Three lies in one term. It isn't a meal. It isn't ready. It isn't edible. Yes, the calories are there. Yes, it can be eaten. The old "C-rats" we're more nutritious and healthier.

Are you serious? Though I did like the pound cake, plus heating the cheese and pouring it over the beans were not that bad. ;-)

Has Michelle O been extending

Has Michelle O been extending her nanny-ness to our troops' diet, now?

The US schools fended off the worst of her most severe cuts to our kids' nutritional needs. Is this some form of the same interference from the White House?

I have no problem with Michelle Obamas campaign against obesity. For God sake, look around you. Obesity is costing billions upon billions each year in medical expenses alone. If it were Laura Bush, we would be praising her for her effort.

Laura Bush was smart enough not to meddle in affairs that were none of her business. You know, sort of like a conservative - maybe more so than her husband?

Reaganite, Laura Bush was involved in a lot of things. Is there anything wrong with fighting obesity which is costing taxpayers around 190 billion every year?

The program isn't successful,

The program isn't successful, Bob, because the calories were cut so severely that kids were coming home starving every day. That goes for all grade levels.

Can you imagine giving a high school junior THREE chicken nuggets on their lunch tray, because any more would exceed the daily protein limit that had been changed?

Do some reading on the program. The government received so many complaints they finally suspended some of the rules in 12/12.

Not only were grains and proteins cut too severely, the mandate to give kids certain fruits and vegetables ended up with much of it going directly to the trash cans.

Mayo Clinic states that girls

Mayo Clinic states that girls age 9 to 13 require between 1,600 and 2,200 calories a day and boys need 1,800 to 2,600. School lunches were 850 calories. Growing up, if I ever threw my food away, I would go hungry till the next meal. One thing came from it though, kids began to brown bag it, which saved the taxpayer money. You ever go into a high school cafeteria? The kids a not starving.

Military force draw-downs are

Military force draw-downs are a big components of Obama's planned budget measures to support his social agenda. This doesn't bode well for career military hoping to get their 20 years - since merely forcing out senior officers will still leave pressure on the line troops not to re-up. The military has ways of discouarging troops from reenlisting if the overall goal is to reducing the level of full-time military.

At this time - some plans are to keep reserves on a call-up cycle. Some believe it's cheaper to use reserves to fill the service needs, rather than relying solely on full-time career soldiers.

MRE: Meals rarely edible. I tried a few during my final years in the Army Reserves. The old C rations back in the 1960s were much better, although I still don't like lima beans.

I liked the MRE's and still buy them to have on hiking trips. The new ones are great, the ones back in the late 80's, not so much, but that's why hot sauce was included.

Yep. I have a major problem with any First Lady getting involved in anything more than highway beautification or literacy. Show me where, in the Constitution, executive power has been vested in the President's spouse.

When we start voting for First Ladies (or First Husbands), then they can take an active role in setting policy. Until then, no. And before you ask, I didn't like Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign, either.

The drawdown diet: Marines

The drawdown diet: Marines steamed by loss of hot meal at Afghanistan base

By Bill Briggs, NBC News contributor

Marines at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan will lose a key daily meal starting Saturday, causing some to forgo a hot breakfast and others to work six-plus hours without refueling on cooked food....

The midnight ration service — known there as “midrats" — supplies breakfast to Marines on midnight-to-noon shifts and dinner to Marines who are ending noon-to-midnight work periods. It's described as one of the few times the Marines at Leatherneck can be together in one place.

The Democrat's plan and the

The Democrat's plan and the Republican's ignorance is doing the job they intend and that is to take your mind off the fact that the Democrat plan is to make everyone dependent on government and to increase the cost of government by rewarding big government workers and supporters with jobs and grants and raising their wages and salaries every year for producing the same output. If the government truly wanted to reduce costs it would roll back salaries and wages to 1930's levels. The private sector could immediately follow suit when the Roosevelt era social legislation is repealed. and we return to a free market unencumbered by government.

If you say these raises are only necessary to counter inflation my response is where do you think inflation came from in the first place? If you ask why don't we have inflation now, or as much as we used to my response is that it is still there, it is buried in the nations debt and the overlying obligations the nation has accumulated that is not yet on the books.

Lori -- there is no "Snopes"

Lori -- there is no "Snopes" about the substitution of cold MRE's for the hot, cooked breakfast that was formerly being given our troops. They are also going longer without food, in some cases.

Please read the link you provided, and the comments from the troops themselves at the link I posted, above.

Thanks.
