Recent population data show millennials are the largest voting block in America. Polls indicate they 67% Democrat and 33% Republican.
They don't vote. And once they get a job and out of their parents' basement, they'll change their tune. The deductions from your first paycheck have that effect.
When Mom an Dad's assets get eaten up in their old age and that nest egg they been planning on inheriting is gone..... that's when reality will set in.
Yeah; being a waiter doesn't seem like it will have good career prospects in the future.
I suppose these kids had parents, its not obvious that anyone taught them anything.
We are doomed and it has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats. Just read my books and you will see why population and our ability to feed them is the reason. Not for us just yet, but soon and readily calculable.
No excuse for elder abuse
Every time someone predicts the end due to food shortage, crop yields rise. It's the free market, farm edition.
As far as millennials inheriting, the reverse mortgage has done for that.
Spend your equity to enjoy your retirement, as the ads put it, and your kids inherit nothing but debt.
A local business I deal with a lot has the following makeup of employees: 19F, 20F, 30F, 35M, 43M, 45F - all but one (the 43M) voted for Trump one of them told me. And this is in midcoast Maine.
This is anecdotal, but it certainly surprised me since I know all of these folks pretty well and assumed they were not Trump voters.
It's not that they are actually conservative voters. It's just that the liberals wandered off into the twilight zone...
Working for us? We have no idea who they're working for anymore.
Toolsmith: Crop yields due to genetic engineering have peaked and the statistics dispute the fact that crop yields are increasing. On the contrary, they are decreasing and in particular the most kcal productive crops such as wheat and other grains have to be subsidized by the government or they would not even be produced.
You could always look at the bright side, maybe if there isn't enough k-cals to go around idiots will stop breeding more people for jobs and food that doesn't exist .....but then they are idiots.
I may be mis-remembering, but I seem to recall that pmcon frequently advocates for population control or whatever else you might call it.
Or we can only hope that the circular firing squad that is in play in Washington right now doesn’t run out of ammunition...
Mel: Yes, I firmly advocate for population control. It is the growth in population that is putting pressure on a societies ability to feed its population and that is occurring in Africa the Middle East and South and Latin America and Asia as well. It is not that the world does not produce enough food, it is that it is not well distributed and one must work to earn the currency necessary to purchase it. The number of paying jobs and the ridiculous variation in that payment means those who cannot work must rely on charity for their food. If you do not thing this situation exists in the U. S. then why are nearly 50 million people on food stamps of EBT cards and those who cannot qualify for them are going to food banks and private charities in order to obtain sustenance?
The United States is the richest country in the world, not because it has the most dollars but because it produces enough food to feed tens of millions of people and some of that output goes to feed animals for food and pets or is converted to fuel (ethanol). If we did not export a huge quantity of our wheat and corn production we would have even more people migrating here. Your government is what has caused this problem because it is the agency that decides who gets what and how much through the tax code. The disparity in this distribution in other countries first results in migration and then civil unrest but when the government changes hands it adopts the same economic system and the problem does not go away because the root cause has not been addressed.
In my book The Real Economy I describe how the current system works and why it will ultimately fail. Fortunately there is a better system but even it will not last, but at least it will prolong the existence of humans on the planet significantly longer. Humans are animals. Non-humanoid animals have no money and are unable to alter their environment so must live on what nature provides and reproduces as it is consumed to sustain life. In my book I theorize what happened to the dinosaurs and the many other species that no longer occupy the planet. They consumed the surplus food needed to reproduce the next years production and essentially ate themselves to death. Had we not been able to increase the yield per acre to the extent that it is now maximized, we would have reached the same point in the life of humans many years ago.
A useful analogy is a golf club. Several dozen people who like to play golf get together, acquire some land and build a golf course and club house for their members. If that membership is sustained at the same number as when it started the players will enjoy the same benefits as when they started, assuming an all male contingent whose eldest son inherits the membership of his father. As the membership is increased, the benefits must be distributed to more and more members. Since the course can only sustain the play of a specific number of members there will come a point where some of the members will not be able to play golf at all or at times they cannot. Who would then want to join?
