Portland Press Herald Panel On Media Bias

The Maine Sunday Telegram reported there will be a panel discussion Friday, November 17th at USM in Portland on media bias and the question: “Is the Press Being Fair to President Trump?” On that I agree with former President Jimmy Carter, who said two weeks ago: “I think the media have been harder on Trump than any other president, certainly, that I've known about. I think they feel free to claim that Trump is mentally deranged and everything else without hesitation.”

The big name brought in for the panel is The Boston Globe’s Walter Robinson, head of the Globe Spotlight Team which won a Pulitzer Prize for exposing the homosexual priest scandal in the Catholic Church. Robinson would likely chafe at my characterization because his team was careful to label it a pedophile priest scandal and play down the overwhelmingly obvious homosexual dynamic. Nonetheless, I applaud the Spotlight Team for their work. It nearly caused me to abandon Catholicism -- the religion of my youth to which I had returned only a dozen years before the scandal broke in 2002.

When Maine Sunday Telegram reporter Ray Routhier asked Robinson why it’s important to look at Trump’s treatment in media, Robinson said: “…because nearly half of the American people believe that the so-called ‘mainstream media’ are making stories up about him.” That’s an accurate assessment borne out by opinion polls, but then Robinson said: “When…the president…spends all of his time saying that reporters are enemies of the American people and they make everything up all the time, that’s bound to have some effect…even if it’s not true, which it isn’t.”

“All his time”? “Make everything up”? “All the time”? Talk about hyperbole. Yes, Trump has tweeted and said: “Fake news,” and has characterized some media as “enemies of the people” on occasion, but not all media. Rather, he singled out obviously biased media like NBC, ABC, NYTimes, CBS, and CNN. If he had more than 140 characters, he would no doubt have included The Boston Globe and the Maine Sunday Telegram as well. Let’s compare two stories currently in the news for just one example of liberal media bias:

The rest is here.

They're not even trying to be

They're not even trying to be impartial anymore. But still bristle if you suggest they're not.

Liberalism is a disease.

Liberalism is a disease.
These people are sick and should be committed until a suitable cure is found.

Two very recent mega-examples

Two very recent mega-examples:

50th Anniversary of Rolling Stone. Falling all over themselves in praise... and hardly a word about UVA.

Today... featuring Joe Biden!

Can you ever remember a news show featuring one politician for the entire show? If it wasn't for Megyn Kelly asking one or two actual questions, it would have been an uninterrupted love-in. Just Joe's creepy style...

There is nothing wrong with

There is nothing wrong with media bias as long as such bias is openly acknowledged. It's only in the US that we expect the print media to report without bias - look at the major print media in other countries and their bias is well known.

Then of course there is FOX "News" that claims to be "fair and balanced." I'll let others talk about what if any bias there is there.

Moore's crime is that he beat

Moore's crime is that he beat an "establishment Republican" in the primary election. The criminal enterprise that is "the Beltway" does not like to lose. An obvious example is their treatment of The Donald, Donald is beginning to learn who pulls the strings in DC, but it is always best to have someone who is already vetted so they slide right into the ooze of DC. No waves just a slurp and business as usual.

Moore promised to make waves, Collins, McConnell et al don't like to have to explain their criminality to anyone.

One of the more tangible

One of the more tangible effects of the media’s liberal bias is financial, many businesses have just stopped advertising with liberal rags like bdn and pph simply because of their bias.......With the advent of digital media print media has about zero juice in the marketplace.....

Gerald, it is not OK to be

Gerald, it is not OK to be biased even if you admit it. Maybe if these sleazy rags, talking heads and over all lying slobs would admit that their bias allows them to out right lie about the news, edit films and quotes to change the facts, make up fake news to fit their biased agenda, hide damaging facts about their favorite politicians, stay silent on matters they don't like....then, perhaps it would be OK but, other than Liberal Socialist Commies, who would read, listen to or watch such crap.

Modern journalism: The WaPo

Modern journalism: The WaPo reported it so it must be reportable. Soon and in lockstep, there are 20 outlets reporting it, so it must be true.

Moore has survived incredible public scrutiny around issues that speak specifically to women. If any of the new allegations were real, let alone provable or defensible, they would have been used to destroy him a long time ago.

Media piling on. Journalism is dead.

In a country of laws, where

In a country of laws, where one is innocent until proven guilty, so is the idea of American justice, it seems.

Rabid Anti-Trumper Arrested in Calif. after Threatening to Go on Killing Spree

Have you ever heard of David Kenneth Smith? Chances are you haven't — he's a rabid anti-Trumper, thus his story didn't fit any convenient narrative. News of his arrest was treated as a local story with no national significance. However, if this freak had been a right-wing activist, he'd have been a front-page story in every paper in the country.
Smith, 39, was arrested in Orange County, Calif., on Nov. 2 following an investigation involving the Joint Terrorism Task Force. He was charged with one felony count of making criminal threats after threatening a university professor through emails and posting threatening YouTube videos — in one he talked about going on a "killing spree."
Police recovered nine loaded firearms registered to Smith after his arrest, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials.
