5th Column Lies Again

It seems that the media lied again on the Trump tax rate he paid as compared to Obozo's rate. For Trump, they used his total income (lines 7 through 20) which totals $152 million. Divide that by the $38.4 million he paid in taxes, you get 25%. But, to get to Obozo's 18.7% they used Obozo's "Adjusted Gross Income" (line 38). Trump's Adjusted Gross Income (income after losses) was $48.6 million. That means that in an apples-to-apples comparison, Trump actually paid a 79% rate.

Why is this not news?

I read "Game of Thrones"

I read "Game of Thorns" about the election. Little new there, but when it talked about the extent of Clinton corruption and media complicity, it really was spectacular to see it all spelled out in one place.

It's not news because the point of AMT is to ding people that have a large quantity of deductions. It's sort of a tacit acknowledgement that the way we calculate deductions is messed up (accelerated depreciation, for example, is complete horseshit). Of course, in classic governmental form, instead of fixing the problem, they added a weird, insanely complicated bandaid to attempt to fix the problem.

He's got $151mm in revenue from income/interest/business income/rentals, and then some sort of weird mystery loss of -$103mm (I've honestly never seen that line used that way in a tax return, no idea what the reference is to).

Since we don't have the rest of the return, there's no way of knowing what the -103mm is.

BTW it's worth noting that the leaked copy came from his office (has the stamp, "Client copy" on it).
